Question from Bronwyn Cassidy, Derby:

Will Veneers Stain?

I want to get porcelain veneers but I am worried whether or not they will stain in the same way that natural teeth do. I do not want to go to the expense of getting these if they will begin to stain over time.

Answer from James Coleman, Wembley:

Porcelain veneers are made with a glaze over them which is designed to prevent any staining. They can however, dull slightly over time but you should not notice the same staining that you would with natural teeth. Veneers cannot be bleached either in the same way that natural teeth can. If you practice good oral hygiene at home, you will find that your veneers can maintain that beautiful appearance for years. You should treat your veneers as you would normal teeth in that they should be brushed and flossed as though they were real teeth. It is advisable to use a non abrasive toothpaste with fluoride.
