Question from Jessica Burt, Birmingham:

How Much do Braces Cost?

I see from your site that you have an average cost for some procedures but I want to know what kind of cost is associated with braces?

Answer from Clare Mitchell, Bristol:

If you are under the age of 18 you are entitle to get braces fitted free under the NHS as providing there is a medical reason. Students also qualify up to the age of 19. The NHS also covers free treatment for people on low incomes, and women who are pregnant or who have a child under the age of one. The NHS will not cover the costs of braces for cosmetic reasons, however and you will have to pay charges if you do not medically require the braces.

If you have to go privately to get braces, you will be able to get a full estimate from the orthodontist before treatment begins. You should get this in writing before you start. Every individual is different and therefore prices will vary but average costs are as follows: Ceramic Braces - £3000, Invisalign Braces - £3500, Lingual Braces - £2500 and Metal Braces - £1000.
